The Sheldon Art Galleries presents Harris Armstrong: A Modernist for Today, Sappington Spur House and Garden Tour, Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 2–5 p.m. Proceeds benefit the exhibitions and educational programs of the Sheldon Art Galleries.
Take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view four significant homes designed by innovative St. Louis modernist architect Harris Armstrong (1899-1973) in the Sappington Spur enclave in Oakland, near Kirkwood. Armstrong was one of the first architects in St. Louis to employ the tenets of the International style, and took inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright's designs. The homes, three of which he designed for himself, are examples of some of the best modernist/mid-century designs in St. Louis. Docents and information sheets will be available at each home.
Free parking is available at Temple Israel, 10675 Ladue Road, St. Louis, MO 63141, and free parking shuttles will be available to bring visitors to the tour.
Tour tickets only are $25 in advance / $35 at the door. Golden Key Tickets are $250 and include exclusive after party, a tax deduction and limited edition collectible photograph by Chandler Curlee. Tickets are limited!
