FACILITIES MAINTENANCE & EVENT SETUP

The Facilities Maintenance and Event Setup Staff members report to and are supervised by the Facilities/Bar Coordinator. This is a part time position with variable hours between 20-25 hours per week. The FM and ESSM must be able to work a flexible schedule. Typical employment will be 2 to 3 week days, in addition to the expectation of regular availability on most weekends. In short, members of this team will:

  • insure that the physical appearance and general cleanliness of the Sheldon’s interior and exterior grounds are looking exceptional each day
  • provide maintenance on broken items, equipment, and anything in the Sheldon that is in disrepair
  • assist in the setup and breakdown of all Sheldon events
  • display a willingness and flexibility to perform additional tasks not specified on this description depending on daily priorities, and/or as needed by the Galleries, Operations, Events, and Facilities staff

SPECIFIC FACILITIES RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Weekly cleaning of all restrooms; daily cleaning as needed depending on events
  • Weekly mowing of lawn; trimming of trees, shrubs, landscaping work as needed
  • Daily cleaning of concert hall/ballroom/galleries following events
  • Washing of windows / shoveling snow
  • Regular cleaning of offices / cleaning of carpet as needed
  • Mopping of stages, green room, and other hard floors
  • Painting / light drywall patching work as needed
  • Additional miscellaneous needs associated with general upkeep of facilities and grounds as they are needed
SPECIFIC EVENT SETUP RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Weekend shifts are a necessity
  • Setup and clean up of all concert, banquet, wedding, etc. events
  • Setup tables, chairs, dance floors, stages, to meet function specifications
  • Setup of refreshments and utensils/plates/napkins, etc as needed
  • Properly clean meeting space at beginning, during, and end of events, including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, and wiping down areas
  • Running supply inventory checks prior to functions, and stocking necessary items so that they’re prepared and ready for use during events
  • Pickup/delivery of last minute items, rental equipment, and rental vehicles as needed
ADDITIONAL TRAITS:
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs. unassisted
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as a team to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work hard and efficiently to help the Sheldon produce the highest quality experiences possible

MARKETING/PUBLICITY INTERN

The Sheldon Concert Hall seeks a junior / senior Communication major for a non-paid marketing and publicity internship. One of the world's premiere acoustic concert halls, The Sheldon presents over 300 events each year featuring jazz, folk and classical concerts, plus a 7000 square-foot art gallery. Interns will gain experience in marketing, public relations, concert promotion, development, advertising, and box office management. Located in Grand Center, The Sheldon is two blocks north of Saint Louis University's campus, directly behind the Fox Theater.

DUTIES:

  • Maintain clip reports
  • Coordinate press releases
  • Design and distribute PR and publicity materials
  • Database entry
  • Proofreading
  • Organizing subscription records
  • Research
  • Assist with online promotions
  • Maintain photo files
  • Assist at box office during selected concerts
  • Various administrative duties
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 10 hours per week minimum
  • Junior / Senior communication/music major

INTERNSHIPS AT THE SHELDON ART GALLERIES

Interns assist the director in all facets of exhibition production, including exhibition research, installation of exhibitions, working as gallery attendant, letter writing and other clerical duties, educational outreach, education packets for exhibitions, organizing children's educational workshops and assisting with opening receptions. A commitment of at least 3 months if summer, and 6 months if school year, is required. Only unpaid internships are available.
